All:
Here are my two cents.
The n.hand product from IOM is known to exist for about a year now. But 80% the camera manufacturers have signed up Sandisk, so it means they have looked at the floppy drive, the n.hand drive and the flash and decided that flash is the solution.
The cam manufacturers have no vested interest to put that $150 n.hand drive into their cameras. That will drive the cost of the dig cam up by $150, plus add more headaches because of mechanical failure. I saw that nobody except Sony has used the 3.5" floppy drive. Personally, I like the 3.5" floppy too because it's cheap, I could carry a pocket full of 3.5" floppies myself, but the cam makers for sure don't like it. Just more work for them, add more cost to the cam, more headache because of mechanical failure, make the cam bigger.
Furthermore, as soon as Sandisk put out that 80MB CompactFlash on the market, it would be plenty of storage for the average photographers in one outting. As soon as they get home, then they can offload their pictures onto the PC or yes, may be the n.hand.
I wonder if the n.hand works with vibration, like you shoot a picture while running. Somebody has brought up speed limitation with mechanical device, good point. It sure consumes more power than flash.
I see the n.hand product as a complementary product to flash rather than competitive. |
