Single chip encoders meeting the standard have already been introduced, but video quality is usually degraded, but Toshiba has shown real- time encoding without loss of quality. Not only can this chip be used in industrial applications of DVD , it has promise for the home market in DVD -RAMs, which will become active in 1998 and 1999.
