I thought it was interesting that the Atheists ridicule "creationists" by knocking the idea the earth is 6000 years old and some picture of Jesus riding a dinosaur yet the Pope refers to the Big Bang as a mechanism for Gods work.

When I was in Grad school (ecology and evolution) we had these discussions all the time. While one professor would offer up an example why evolution/natural selection proved creationism wrong another would simply say "maybe that's the way God did it". To which there was no answer.
