Jim, usually the closing bid is price the stock was sold last when the market closed. It could also be the best offer from MM. But eitherway one can only influence the bid to go higher by buying at ask or offering more.

So I failed to understand how JDN's idea of bidding just above '3/8th will do the trick when such offer is unlikely to be accepted by MM.
