PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1997--Legato Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO), a leader in the enterprise storage management software market, today announced that it is extending its NetWorker product line to support Fibre Channel I/O, Network Attached Storage (NAS), and Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies. NetWorker intends to be the first storage management product to support these technologies in the Windows NT and UNIX environments. In a related announcement on November 12, 1997, Legato announced founding membership in the newly formed Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). This is an organization dedicated to promoting market awareness and industry standards in networked storage.
Legato intends to support Fibre Channel storage products from leading vendors, including Compaq's newly announced line of Fibre Channel storage products. Legato's October 1997 device support supplement released earlier this week added support for the COMPAQ DLT Library Model 3570 and the ATL P1000 on NetWorker for Windows NT and UNIX. Legato will support the Fibre Channel versions of these models, as well as Fibre Channel storage devices from ADIC, EMASS, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Overland Data, SUN and others in upcoming releases of it quarterly device support supplement program.
"As the amount of information explodes, customers are demanding an Enterprise Storage Management Architecture that will enhance and simplify network storage management," said Nora Denzel, senior vice president of Legato Systems, Inc. "Legato recognizes the value of Fibre Attached storage devices and will support these devices, taking advantage of their flexibility and reliability."
Fibre Channel will be heavily used in SAN and NAS environments to deliver scalable high-performance storage solutions for enterprise applications. Legato NetWorker's advanced highly- parallel architecture with concurrent I/O and data multiplexing, allows it to scale backup performance to over 1.5 terabytes per hour, ideal for Fibre Channel and the needs of SAN and NAS systems. Legato's Global Enterprise Management of Storage (GEMS) product complements these systems with policy-based administration, resource management, and performance and availability management features a customer needs to manage multiple NAS and SAN environments.
