Gabrielle Giffords expected to recover from Arizona shooting that killed 6 Saturday, January 08, 2011 The Associated Press nj.com A surgeon said he was "very optimistic" about the recovery of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords after the congresswoman was among 18 shot this morning at a Safeway grocery in Tucson, Ariz. The surgeon said Giffords was shot "through and through" in the head, and that she was shot just once. He did not give details on where in the head the bullet struck.
