Steve, before you get too upset at the Palin map, keep in mind that the Daily Kos also targeted Democratic races.....specifically Blue Dogs. The Kos website had a map of, I think, 16 or so races with BULL_EYES over the candidates names and states. My own Senator, Blanche Lincoln, was targeted and did go down in the election. The Daily Kos was behind an outpouring of money to get her defeated.
If you look at the map, Gabby Giffords was also one of the Kos targets and she barely won her race. The Daily Kos is, of course, a leftist organization, and wanted to replace conservative Dems with liberal Dems, and the map on their website used the same kind of warfare imagery that Palin did. So it's tit for tat, don't you think.
Warfare or militaristic imagery is nothing new in the political arena. So and so being in the 'crosshairs' is a common phrase. Remember the show Crossfire on CNN.
For all we know Loughman, who was a flag-burner, failed the military drug test, and was considered a druggie and a leftist by his acquaintances, could have been inspired by the rhetoric and map on the Daily Kos website. The Feds have his hard drive. I hate to say it, but this might tickle me pink. Watching the leftist media rush to judgment in the first place and now still be trying to pin the responsibility for this tragedy on the right for the last two days has been pathetic. It all can be boiled down to a mass attempt to dumb down the viewers and portray the Democratic Party as victims. An echo chamber of self pity which seems to have absolutely no basis in fact. Building a huge strawman labeled "vitriol" to, I guess, somehow excuse the bad decisions and lack of leadership the party is paying the price for in the polls.
And I can tell you for a fact, out here in fly over country, this attempt for three days to shape the discourse is NOT winning them any votes. I've even felt embarressed by my party membership. |
