I don't think anyone is claiming that its all Palin's fault. But it is quite clear that Palin (along with the likes of Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh et al) have made very significant contributions to the tone of intolerance, incivilty, and confrontation that permeates our political scene today. I'm sure that anyone who cares to can list left leaning voices who have also made inappropriate and incivil statements. This over the edge incivility in turn provides encouragement to the crazies who perpetrate events such as the Arizona shooting. Direct cause and effect? Of course not. Contributory negligence? Of course!

IMO, politicians and commentators of all stripes should view this as an opportunity to step back from the brink and acknowledge that despite real political differences that exist, we all are striving towards the same objective - a free and open society with sufficient economic opportunities so that our children and grandchildren can live happy, healthy and prosperous lives in a land of peace and plenty. Acknowledging political differences ought not lead to the demonization of ones political opponents as has been happening much too often in contemporary US society.
