Why?

Why did Jared Loughner try to kill Gabrielle Giffords and a group of others that were with her.

Liberals have said that he was inspired by right wing incendiary rhetoric.

More rational people have said that he did it because he was crazy. That there certainly wasn't a political motivation and probably no reason that a sane person can understand.

I believe there is reason we can certainly all come away saying "yeah, that could be it".

What do we know about Jared Loughner?
- 22 years old
- Male
- paranoid
- 18 years old when he first met Giffords
- Communicated with Giffords when he was 18 years old
- Was not happy with Giffords response to his bizarre question and deemed her as unintelligent

What do we know about Gabrielle Giffords?
- 40 years old
- Female
- Blue dog democrat
- 36 years old when she first met Loughner
- Accessible to her constituents
- Attractive

So what happened 4 years ago when Loughner asked Giffords "what is government if words have no meaning?". Loughner was obviously testing her. Her response was basically to dismiss him. She rejected him. An attractive woman rejected an 18 year old boy who also happens to be unbalanced.

Jared Loughner didn't ask Giffords a political question. He wasn't rightwing, he wasn't leftwing. He didn't attack a man. He didn't attack Janet Napolitano. He attacked a very attractive woman who rejected him.

Obviously a sane person wouldn't go on a killing rampage because he is rejected by a woman. And a sane person wouldn't try to assassinate the president to impress a female celebrity. John Hinkley tried to assassinate Reagan to impress Jodie Foster. And that's not rational, but we can see how a crazy person would connect the dots to come up with those actions.

Jared Loughner is a more efficient version of John Hinkley. And assigning right wing political influences as the cause of Loughner's rampage would be as justified as linking John Hinkley's actions to liberal influences.
