RE: Gulf Wars and other developments

Josh,

Not exactly. Dell plunged to nine bucks right
after Iraq invaded Kuwait, which is when I bought
500 shares of it. Needless to say, it was back
up in the money in about a month, and I made a
pretty penny on it. I'm sure others who were
investing in those days also picked up some nice
bargains at that moment. If that's what you call
the market acting normally, then if it wouldn't
mean a horrible fate for the innocent children
on the streets of Baghdad, I'd pray for normalcy
every night at bedtime.

If Tomahawks hit Baghdad tomorrow morning, causing
IOM to take a transient dive, we should all REJOICE
our investing good fortune, load up, and then wait
for the impact of the "big announcement" to set in.
Anybody who thinks Baghdad can disrupt stock prices
in anything other than a transient manner is naive.

As I said, it's gonna be n.hand, folks. Okay, it's
gonna be a really good n.hand rollout. Do try to
stop yer drooling. It's very unbecoming, and it
drives up your dry cleaning bills. <g>

Prediction: When Iomega lowers the price on the
notebook Zip from $350 to something better for the
consumer, Rocky will tell us that they're desperate
for sales, that their margins will shrivel, etc.,
forcing me to remind him again of the Henry Ford/
Model T analogy, and then the subsequent quarterlies
will all show improving margins on the suckers.
Yesiree, those notebook Zips are gonna be big,
big losers.

Rocky's right about one thing, though, and I credit
him for it here, namely, that VST failed to ship in
September/October when they promised they would back
at PC Expo in June. On the other hand, did anyone
notice in the laptop Zip press release that Iomega
is now sampling out evaluation copies of the 12.7mm
model of the Zip? That's a big hint they gave us
there, folks. It means they've got the motor problem
basically licked. I'm very sure that, when whoever
wrote that little extra bit into the announcement,
they thought at least momentarily about how this
audience and ones like it would pick up on it.

Cheers, Tom (long IOM)
