Very good, Bill. I tried for some time to point out on that thread the amount of things they read that have cherry-picked quotes in them. I got tired of trying to do the fact checking for them, deciding what they really want is just to whine and feel sorry for themselves rather than be informed.
As for Krugman, he's a masterbuilder of strawmen. In the original piece he manufactures a euphemism, "eliminationist rhetoric", having defined "eliminationist" as the philosophy of getting rid of your political opponent BY ANY MEANS. Pretty ominous sounding. The problem is that it's a total strawman. There is no such philosophy. Nevertheless, having established his false premise, i.e. the strawman, he then goes on to identify examples of "eliminationist rhetoric" and "eliminationist" metaphors.......armed and dangerous, Palin's crosshairs, and so on.
Strawman arguments drive me nuts, and both sides do it. Krugman does it alot, though, and that is why I labeled him some time ago as Krockman. He's a krock, just full of it.....well, in my opinion anyway. |
