It was on a Democrat who had been vilified by a gun-waving right wing Its was a centrist Democrat who had also been vilified and specifically "targeted" by Kos among others. Not that shooting an extreme liberal or conservative would itself be indication that the attack came from the the other mainstream political "side", as any congress person is going to have some political view, many clearly conservative or liberal. This particular shooting seems to be primarily motivated by the fact that the shooter didn't like how the congresswoman answered his question at an earlier occasion (well that and the severe mental troubles of the shooter). No apparent political connection beyond that, not even a clear one to the shooters own bizarre eclectic and incoherent political views or statements. It's not easy to reject legislation that guarantees health care security while trimming hundreds of billions off projected deficits The reality is that the bill will likely make health care and/or insurance worse for more people than it causes an improvement for, while adding massively to government spending, and to a lesser degree deficits, all while going beyond the powers the constitution gives to the federal government. Not that there is even a miniscule amount of evidence comparing any aspect of the health care bill, or its opposition, to the shooting. Apparently Harrop is just trying to score cheap political points off the shooting and then apply them to support the unconstitutional and expensive health care law. But Democrats have no Sarah Palin-like figure putting opponents in the crosshairs of gun sights, False. Kos did the same thing (including "targeting" the same congresswoman). Obama talked about bringing a gun to the fight. Harry Reid vowed to "vaporize" his opponents. Those are similar or greater in terms of using violent words or imagery. Paul Kanjorski calling for the execution of the governor of Florida, Craig Kilborn putting "snipers wanted" over a video of George Bush, and other examples are worse. Loughner may be crazy, but his choice of officeholder was hardly random. It wasn't random in that he was pissed at this particular politician, but the origin of that anger seems to be pretty random.
