I just spent two weeks around Cairns, Australia. Fantastic place to visit, also a good peak into how a heavy handed government impacts the cost of living. I did some research on minimum wage there when coming back. At $15.00 hour it explains why most everything is so expensive.

$15 a six pack of low end local beer is a good example. I can tell you from what I saw they drink allot of beer there, I guess the government is taxing the hell out of liquor as well.

Most of the consumer items seemed to be twice the cost here. Of course the present exchange rate does not help.

The TV had government service messages it seemed every 3 commercials.

Retailers were on TV whining about loss of sales to the internet. The deals on the internet for Aussies are even better.

Watching CNN international on the Arizona shooting made me furious. They had some nice word associations going on the screen with words such as violence, right wing, palin, conservative in a table while reporting the shooting.

It provided me a good opportunity to show how ruthless the leftists are to my kid.
