actually, it is the composite bats where there is an issue. All bats in little league must have a bat performance factor of 1.15. If it has that 1.15BPF rating, the ball comes off the bat the same speed regardless of material. Recently (as in two weeks ago), the Little League organization put a moratorium on all composite bats because, where as they were sold with a BPF of 1.15, after they were broken in, their BPF got higher.
My opinion on this is that it is a bunch of hooey. Your pitchers tend to be the most athletic guys one the field. One guy got hurt because he didn't get out of the way of a ball hit by a composite bat and now they have gone into overreaction mode (reminds me of the gun control idiots).
Meanwhile, the Little League organization waited until one week after Christmas to announce the moratorium. Thereby allowing millions of parents to go out and buy composite bats for their kids for christmas, only to find out a week later that they can't use them.
Being somewhat informed on what is going on in little league, I had a pretty good idea that the moratorium was coming and avoided buying the boy a composite bat. |
