I wonder if these same authors would also trivialize love and laughter. Perhaps consciousness can be reduced to neural machinery. Imo that does not reduce its value as a concept. The authors in the links you provided are saying that consciousness is not a prime trait but a consequential one. Imo to extend this to the idea that consciousness does not exist (implied by your form of non-recognition) is an overreach; essentially materialist jesuitry.

Consciousness, like love or laughter, is an idea with immediate and universal intuitive appeal. While I am sure that love and laughter can be reduced ad absurdum, I fail to see the value in doing so.
