Well, we certainly have another huge difference of opinion. I know kids can survive a great deal, but why put them through it needlessly? My kids are my buddies. One does not hit or betray their buddies.

Both of my kids tell me every day how appreciative they are that I was always so gentle with them. And they still phone me several times a week and did all through college. Most kids do not.

They tell me most of their friends have terrible relationships with their parents and once again how grateful they are I was their dad.

And I would remind you, as mentioned, Japanese students have the highest suicide rate in the world. So don't give me the spare the rod, spoil the child bullshit.

And you are wrong about childrens egos! They are fragile. As an example virtually everyone walks around with an inferiority complex for no good reason.

I think my kids achieved their full potential and they were raised as gently as any kid on earth.

Not sure what else I could have asked from them? Both were straight A students, one went to Berkeley and Loyola law and the other is a scientist who smoked a little pot, but got A+ in the most demanding classes like honors physics and chemistry and math classes.

<<Kids egos are very fragile and must be dealt with very gently.

I think you miss the underlying message in that article. Those kids' egos are not fragile because they know their parents love them deeply. Rent The Joy Luck Club.....it talks about this very issue.

I very much agree with this kind of child raising. I think good parents in this country coddle their kids too much.>>
