Just had a friend pass from pancreatic cancer. UCLA Prof, 72 years old. Four months, spread to his liver and lungs. Bad problem with blood clots toward the end.

Point is it's a killer. The fact that Jobs has has had it since 2004 and has survived this long is a testament to his doctors (and the power of money; hey, my mom was wrong: $ can buy you health).

What the writer doesn't touch on is how much more valuable Jobs is to the world (and Apple and America) then just another average Joe with pancreatic cancer. The system isn't only reacting to what Job's money can buy him, but what happens if Job dies.

There is a titanic battle with Apple and ATT on one side and Google on the other. It's called Net Neutrality. If Job goes, it increases the chances of Google and the "open system" winning, or so says Tim Wu in the Master Switch.

Who says the great man theory of history isn't true?
