Z....,
you may be right that there's not going to be a huge demand for these new systems...on the other hand, i've got to say that without a doubt i will be buying one. Why, you ask.well i can tell from your tone that you are not a current macintosh user, which is fine. After all, not everyone can own a mercedes or understand those who decide to make such a purchase. I prefer a mac because in my experience as a cross platfrom user, there is almost nothing with the exception of buying certain software, that is not dramatically easier on a Mac. Is Windows 95 an improvement over 3.1, definitely, but is it remotely as intuitive as the Mac, no chance. I originally struggled with the decision to buy a mac (understanding that it was a far superior product, but worried about software availability), so what made the decision for me? Simple, I looked at a dual platform CD Rom and noticed that the instructins for launching the disc in windows 95 required 5 steps and typing names.something. this was archaic for a "new OS"...what did it say under the mac instructions...
step 1. insert disc step 2. double click the icon to begin using the program. Imagine now that everything u do with a pc took 60% less effort (40% if u count each click as one action) and u see why most mac users are unlikely to jump to windows as easily as u suspect...
Now factor in the fact that these new machines have enormous speed advantages over Wintel systems (2xfaster than a 300 MHz pentium II in random stuff that means nothing to me, but more dramatically 30% faster in real world use i.e. photoshop tests) that's a pentium II 400!!!! and the difference will only get worse for Intel with the new chip technology at IBM
just a few thoughts,
