3 Things Obama Should Say in State of the Union
PEGGY NOONAN: FOR STARTERS, CALL FOR A BAN ON AMMUNITION CLIPS

(NEWSER) – President Obama’s on a winning streak, and he has a chance to continue it with next week's State of the Union. To do so, he needs to offer “surprising, shrewd, centrist and good policy,” writes Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal. Here’s how:

Guns: “Call for reimposing the ban” on extended clips for pistols. “No one but people with bad intent” need that kind of firepower, and “the Republican Party will not go to the wall to defend extended clips.”

Health care: Don’t be “defiant, high-handed or intransigent” when it comes to health care; instead, “he should sincerely—underline sincerely—offer to discuss changing those parts of the law Republicans find most objectionable."

Debt limit: Call for an extension of the debt limit in exchange for willingness to “work hand in hand with Republicans to cut or limit spending that can reasonably and quickly be cut or limited.”
