The spending for all the weapons and supplies used in WWII nominally got us out of the depression

only spending some of what has been saved helps an economy. WWII spending was fueled by BORROWING, and spent on products that have no practical use except to destroy and kill (bombers, bombs and tanks). debt fueled spending is destructive to an economy.

Some things related to WWII did help us climb out of the depression. One was the purchase of American goods by other countries before we got in to the war.

i don't see how purchases before WWII are related to WWII.

Another reason was the removal of some of the limitations and economic experiments imposed by the government during the depression (there where some new ones, most notably rationing, but at least we no longer had constantly shifting economic experimentation and central control being pushed by FDR.

any cessation of government meddling in any economy would be good for it regardless if there was a war or not.

But perhaps the main reason we got out of the recession was the simple passage of time,

yes, but the time could have been shorter if the markets were left to themselves..

Recessions or depressions don't last forever, esp. not if the government isn't pushing policies that keep them in place.

yes exactly. i believe that recessions and depressions won't even happen if markets are kept free. of course most people don't believe that. they think recessions and depressions are natural (they're not) and necessary. but they're only necessary because government has intervened somewhere.
