The market for the machines was $2.8 billion in 20009....larger than I would have guessed but not huge. What did surprise me though is that there are 11 manufacturers in that market, and that's enough to inject competitive pricing I would think.

You probably know this, but raising the head of the bed by at least 4 inches will go a long way toward preventing the apnea breathing halts. All that soft tissue at the back of the throat shifts forward just enough to keep the airways more open.
