I think the 'nitwits'; are the ones who can't read a simple spreadsheet and see where the TRULY BIG BUCKS are in government spending:

Here is where they are:

Entitlements (firstly Medicare, secondly Social Security, in fourth place other entitlements, government pensions, etc.)

And, Defense.

Interest on the debt can't be defaulted on.

(Most of everything else is but 'pocket lint', lost in the big numbers.)

Only thing else of truly significant size is the 'tax entitlements', the wide variety of special interest loopholes and special tax preference items that litter and corrupt out tax codes.
