I would agree. $0.5B for a failure sounds really expensive. Nevertheless $1.0B for a successful cancer vaccine would turn out to be a steal. I know nothing about the company nor the science behind their "vaccine" attempt but very promising "shots" have failed after PhIII and the only limited cancer success I can think of is Provenge - far from a $B purchase in my mind.
