Report: Bush administration broke law in '06 races

WASHINGTON – A government report says the Bush administration repeatedly broke the law by using taxpayer money to send Cabinet secretaries and other high-level political appointees to the congressional districts of Republican candidates in tight midterm election races in 2006.

The report by the Office of Special Counsel says that because the trips were classified as official government business, funds from the U.S. Treasury were used to finance the trips and that reimbursement from the relevant campaigns was never sought.
