Okay: < care to challenge the math of this early Nobel winner?

Svante Arrhenius (1859-1927) was a Swedish scientist that was the first to claim in 1896 that fossil fuel combustion may eventually result in enhanced global warming.

The article says he pretty well invented global warming, but Fourier was there first, saying CO2 was keeping Gaia warm.

<Arrhenius suggested a doubling of the CO2 concentration would lead to a 5oC temperature rise.>

Hey, where is his maths? It would be nice to challenge his maths, but you'd have to show it.

But let's just take a look at his conclusion.

"5 degrees C for a doubling of CO2."

CO2 has increased from 290 ppm to 390 ppm but we have got only about 0.7 degrees C increase. +100 ppm is up 34% but for that magnificent effort, we got less than 1 degree Celsius [assuming we can claim all of the increase in temperature as being due to human efforts]. Increasing CO2 further to 580 ppm would give us about 3 degrees increase at that rate.

It looks as though his maths was awry, especially since Gaia was warming up after The Little Ice Age slump in temperatures, so we can't really claim all of the 0.7 degrees C as being due to human efforts.
