I completely agree with you that bandwidth is important, but don't agree that MSFT has to invest in cable companies to push greater bandwidth. It's going to come with or without their investment, and they should stick to their core competency -- software.

I suppose you could argue that they are buying a chance to dominate the operating system of the "PC-TV" by investing in cable, but I'm not sure they need to do that in order to get where they want to go.

Frankly, as a shareholder, I'd rather they paid me a dividend than blow billions on misguided minority investments.
