Support for gun control might be growing, or it might not. I don't consider your one poll definitive. But even if it is growing, until and unless it grows a lot its a big "so what". The growth is unlikely to be sustained, the overall trend is in the other direction even if support in the short run has increased. And whatever direction support for gun control has been heading in recently the fact is that its low (and its declined from previous decades, so if its increasing its just a blip against the trend). Additional gun control isn't for the most part a winning issue. Its not something most Americans want.

Also its popularity (or really its lack their of, extensive gun control is not popular) doesn't speak to its benefits (or again lack their of, since more gun control would be a net negative).
