The main point is that nowhere is cost cutting the primary source for business and larger economies to exist much less to thrive.

Cost cutting happens all the time when a business's addressable market, for whatever reason, shrinks. It's not a growth tool, it's a survival tool for a business which (for whatever reason) has an expense level above current requirements.

Lucent grew revenues and expenses like a rabbit from 1996 to 2000. Then the telecom market shrank significantly. If they didn't cut costs, they would have been bankrupt quickly.

The Post Office is an example of an organization that should be cutting costs significantly. With the advent of universal email 15 years ago I wouldn't be surprised if many 25 year olds have NEVER SENT A LETTER to anyone. That is going to just continue as elderly letter writers fade away (if they haven't already, does anyone send letters anymore?).
