Give a few examples...

IPSC and self defense is pretty obvious even to you.

The Arizona killer was not a criminal when he bought his weaponry...

and murder is a crime there as well - no matter magazine capacity.

Did the NRA fight like hell against the bans and lead is still not banned everywhere or for everything

Yes - because it's expensive, it rusts inside wounded ducks and causes festering wounds and it made generations of shotguns unusable as steel shot would tear them up. Newer steel alternatives have made the old guns usable again but at the time - no such alternatives existed besides steel.

Although the argument regarding ducks eating lead in water is entirely possible - there is no equivalent case on dry land to require banning lead shot for other birds like grouse, quail or rabbits.
