I think the entire idea that the Post Office is a failure unless they make a profit is just silly. It doesn't really cost taxpayers much at all, and the services it provides are not replaceable in the private sector.

With the advent of email and online payments, what in the world is the need for a Post Office? Let FedEx handle physical package/mail delivery, and get rid of the Post Office.

At the very least, there should be put in place a 10-20 complete phase out of the post office. Young people don't write letters, probably many 20-25 year olds have NEVER written a single letter in their life.

Internet access makes physical delivery of a letter/magazine obsolete. Making the case for the post office is like defending the pony express in the days of electronic funds transfer.
