I disagree about magazines. To me the point behind subscribing to a magazine is the quality of printing and paper. (It would be prohibitively expensive to home-print a magazine.) Also the layout allows me unintended and collateral exposure to items, including ads, that a directed online search would miss.

It's like e-books. I would much rather have a real paper book in my hands than squint at a screen. It's a much nicer experience even if the content is nominally the same.

I agree it's preferable to read magazines and books on hard copy, but at what cost? Surely the benefit of reading a real magazine versus a tablet download is not worth the cost of the entire (Go) Postal system.

If you want to read the Economist in hard copy, pay for it yourself, including FedEx delivery cost, whatever it might be.

BTW - If you haven't got one, get an iPad. It will completely revamp your consumption of magazines.
