[Submarine] Fujitsu, NEC to construct Asia Submarine-cable Express

Fujitsu Ltd. (TSE 6702) and NEC Corp. (TSE6701) have signed an agreement with NTT Communications, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., StarHub Ltd., and Telekom Malaysia Berhad to construct the Asia Submarine-cable Express system, an optical submarine cable system that will link Japan to Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

The ASE submarine cable network is designed for a transmission speed of 40 Gbps [fac: per wavelength; total capacity unspecified]. The ASE is intended to meet the demand for intra-Asia connectivity between South East Asia and North Asia.
