By Tiernan Ray Shares of Silicon Motion (SIMO), which produces a variety of processors, including embedded graphics chips and controller chips for flash memory devices, are up 64 cents, or 8%, at $6.20 after the company this evening reported Q4 revenue and profit well ahead of estimates, and offered a Q1 and a year forecast that crushed expectations.
Q4 revenue rose 78%, year over year, and 17% from Q3, to $40 million, beating the average $34 million estimate. EPS of 18 cents was double what analysts were expecting.
Gross profit margin as a percentage of sales was down from Q3, at 45.1%, from 48.4%, but expense control helped operating profit margins jump 7 points, to 17%.
For the current quarter, the company sees $36 to $40 million in revenue, versus the consensus $31 million estimate.
For the year, the company sees revenue of $145.6 million to $158.9 million, versus the average $142.6 million estimate. |
