china has 40-50 years of coal left in the ground at current burn rates. That number is a couple of years old. For the past couple of years they have been bringing an average of 16 new coal burning power plants on line per year with similar buildout plans through 2020.

China's coal reserves are much less than those of the US and they are burning at over twice the rate.

China also has the most dangerous mines in the world. The world will take notice of that eventually. For comparison's sake, 50 deaths a year in the US is a very bad year. A good year in china is about 7000 deaths in the coal mines. A bad year is about 20,000.

China will become desperate for energy very very quickly. That's why you have the three gorges dam and an apparent embracing of green energy. But it won't be enough.
