I wonder why these companies are using Mpact when Ziva has better video? The only reasons I can think of are:

1. CUBE pissed off some companies.
2. We're being sandbagged.
3. Toshiba offers a cheap price for DVD-ROM drives if you buy them with Mpact.
4. Mpact comes with graphics capabilities, so you don't need a separate graphics card. This is advertised, but I do not know if it is currently true.

I don't think #2 is true. #1 may be true in some cases. #3 and #4 have to do with the overall system cost. Maybe it is cheaper to use Mpact with a Toshiba DVD-ROM, even though Mpact requires that you buy Rambus memory (NEC and LG make Rambus memory and DVD-ROM drives. LG is involved with Toshiba on Mpact. The puzzle gets interesting here.) Can someone check to see if the PCs sold with Mpact have a separate graphics card? That will tell us whether Mpact can currently do graphics.

Maybe Mpact results in lower system cost, but inferior video. I'm willing to bet that Mpact doesn't do graphics as well as a dedicated graphics card. Lower cost, and inferior video and graphics. Do you think consumers will catch on?
