That's rather debatable. If guns where illegal that doesn't mean they wouldn't exist. But it does mean bank guards would be unarmed. Of course some of them are anyway, but the possibility of an armed guard or more than one armed guard could help deter bank robbery.

It might lessen the small scale bank robberies a bit, but even that is uncertain. The bank take overs and major robberies not so much. The bank robbing pros would still be able to arm themselves. A law against having guns wouldn't keep them from doing so any more than the laws against drugs don't result in a drug free country. (In fact it would be even harder to enforce a law against guns, since they don't get used up quickly, the ammo gets used up, but it can last for a long time, it doesn't need to be continuously replaced like drugs).
