"...take advantage of a short pre-earnings run-up to get out. Will you?"

No can do. I have to hold until at least SE 98 to get a reasonable tax rate. Then earnings will be coming out in October. Followed by the Christmas season. Then earnings again. I don't see how I can sell any before Jan 99.

I notice that lots of negative posters cite DELL's unprecedented run-up and the fact that it sold for a PE of 7+ less than 2 years ago. I suspect the price run-up has a lot to do with DELL's continued sales and earnings expansion, which has finally brought it into the spotlight. Once investors realized that DELL's sustained earnings growth compares favorably with INTC and MSFT, it has begun to command higher PE multiples -- as it should.

And besides, if I sold my DELL now, where would I put the money (left after taxes) which would offer me a better return?

If DELL is unable to sustain high growth, then the PE should decline.
