The drillers do seem to be "consolidating." There seems to be two opinions on the thread: one is that the whole market is going to correct more and the drillers will too, but will recover quickly because they have the highest earnings growth rate of any secector.
The other idea is that they will ralley quickly because of trouble in the Middle East (so more exploration in other areas) and Exxon and Mobile just said yesterday that they will be spending more on exploration next year (they lease rigs from all the drillers).

Also there is talk of profit taking for the end of the year.

I don't know about short-term movements, but everyone agrees that the long-term is very positive.
