Outlawing guns could potentially save thousands of lives, if you could enforce the ban. Good luck with that.

And even if you could nearly perfectly enforce the ban (which isn't going to happen) other people would die, or be robbed or raped, who could have defended themselves with guns. (Which isn't the only reason to be against such a ban even if it could be enforced, but its an important one.)

Since you can't enforce the ban, criminals will still be armed. Disarming their victims only makes things worse.
