*** OT (but IOM related) *** Stock splits

I'm pretty new at this, and this is my first experience with a stock split. The Split announcement says "The dividend is to be distributed on or about December 22 to stockholders of record on December 1." Does this mean that if I buy more shares after Dec. 1, but before Dec. 22, they will not be doubled in the split? Or what? How does that work?
