Tech: I am not posting to enter your "my tool is better than yours" challenge- I suggest you try the men's room of your local tavern for that. I hope CSGI has a great tool and does well. I know ALYD does. I also know that if there were 5 CSGIs and 5 ALYDs, all ten cos. couldn't handle the world's Y2K problem. It doesn't matter what you or I think of any co's. tool. What matter's is what clients and potential clients think. Yesterday alone I spoke w/ the Y2K project mgrs. at 2 cos. with a combined min. of 1.5 billion LOC. Both are using ALYD as the primary conversion vendor. Both are very early in the process. Both have had code converted, tested and put back into production by ALYD (one co. gave them off-the-wall languages such as Telon (sp?) and MarkIV, the other gave "the ugliest COBOL we could find"). Both have nothing but positive things to say about ALYD's technical people and both say it is a pleasure working with them. Will ALYD get 1.5B LOC from these 2 cos.? No. Both are finding a decent % is already compliant and both are actually doing some manually, but both will give SUBSTANTIAL amts. to ALYD over the next 12 mths.
I have seen SmartCode at ALYD's facility; while very impressed, I am not a programmer and am not so foolish to believe that I could not have been the victim of "smoke and mirrors". However, I have talked to the relevant people at Forefront, Chase, SAIC, Hexaware, Dupont, McDonnell Douglas, 3M, Smith Barney, First Boston, and Nabisco (I haven't spoken w/ Compuware, I guess I'm getting lazy). Some are alliance partners, some are small clients, others are large clients. All have seen SmartCode work firsthand.
Other than the follow-up calls to the 2 cos. yesterday, all of this has been known to me for quite a while. It didn't keep the stock from getting cut in half in a manner of weeks, which is why I am posting it only at JDN's request. Whether you bought at $30 or are still hanging onto a profit, we're all $17/shr. poorer and it hurts like hell. I can't guarantee the stock is worth more (but I certainly have my bets placed), but I can guarantee the co. has a quality tool and quality people.
Good luck to all - yes, even you Tech.
