Although it lost six points of smartphone market share last year, according to IDC, Nokia is still by far the world’s largest supplier shipping 100m units in 2010 representing 33% of the market.

No.2 supplier, RIM sold 48.8m smartphones but also lost market share – three points down at 16%

Hard on RIM’s heels for the full year, and overtaking it in Q4 to take the No.2 slot, was Apple, which shipped 47.5m smartphones marginally improving market share to 15.7% up from the 14.5% share it held in 2009.

Samsung increased its shipments by 318% in 2010 selling 23m units and increasing its smartphone market share from 2009’s 3.2% to 2010’s 7.6%.

HTC grew shipments by 165%, selling 21.5m smartphones in 2010 and increasing its market share from 4.7% in 2009 to 7.1% in 2010.

In all, 302.6m smartphones were sold last year – up 74% on the 173.5m sold in 2009 – with Q4 shipments topping 100m units.
