Google's Android climbs, Apple slips in Q4 smartphone platform study

News by Michelle Ruhfass on Wednesday February 09, 2011.

According to Comscore's recently released data, Google is doing everything right when it comes to smartphones in the United States.

The company's Android mobile operating system has climbed in the rankings to move into second place, ahead of Apple. Still at the top though is RIM with its BlackBerry messaging phones. The big news is that Android has moved up from Q3 where it was ranked behind Apple and is now nipping at the heels of the long time number one platform, BlackBerry.

Comscore also noted that over 63.2 million people in the United States own a smartphone, a 60% increase from one year ago.
