The attempts to ridicule and politicize this make me sad quite frankly

what makes me mad, quite frankly, is that Michelle Obama inspired policies had every child in my son's school have their BMI taken. This was done without any notification to the parents and it was done in the classroom in front of everyone. Imagine being the overweight kid in the class that gets his/her BMI determined in front of 25 other kids.

I don't know what type of communication went back to the parents of the kids who had high BMI scores, but I tell ya what, if I got a letter saying 'your kid eats too much pizza", I would have become the worst parental nightmare that school had ever seen.

And as KLP indicated, focusing on nutrition, exercise and health is great. Focusing on obesity puts a stigma on the kids who are overweight. And not all weight issues are simple diet and exercise issues.

And as MrLucky pointed out, her target isn't the kids in my neighborhood. She's going for the kids who live in lower income areas where the parents are absent for the most part anyway. But because of political correctness, my kid has to get dragged along with her efforts.

When the first lady's activities affect what happens to my child in an official capacity, then her actions are political. And when she hasn't bothered to figure out the ramifications of her activities (like calling out obesity rather than just focusing on nutrition and exercise), then she deserves the ridicule.
