Let's put this in perspective:

An average CFL bulb has 5 mg mercury. A typical coal fire station emits around 500 kg of mercury annually. That's equivalent to 100 million CFL lightbulbs. There are some 650 stations in the USA... They collectively emit the amount of mercury equivalent to that contained in 65 BILLION CFL bulbs. Get rid of the coal fired stations, then come to me about the CFL's.
