Actually, they don't. They only get a cut if the manufacturer of the device wants to be able to use Apple's official "Made for iPod" (iPhone, iPad) logo. They charge for certifying the device and for the use of the logo.
And by the way, Microsoft didn't invent USB. That was Intel.
You are, of course, wrong on both counts. AAPL charges a royalty to any manufacturer who wants to connect to the iPod. 10%, end of story. Perhaps you are speculating. I am not.
And the original USB was developed by a consortium including msft, intc, Phillips, and I think us robotics at the time.
As to the logo I believe everyone is require to have it just as they are with CDs, DVDs, and the like. |
