Actually, there is a database program made by an Apple subsidiary, Filemaker. There is a version of Filemaker that also runs on Windows and it is preferred on that side over Access because it is more user friendly - maybe because MS doesn't put much effort into Access. Filemaker also makes an inexpensive non-relational database that's very easy to work with called Bento. It's very handy for stashing bits and pieces of data. Bento is Mac-only.
