It isn't about laziness. It is about making money. Samsung builds practically every component in a cell phone -- some of which they use, others which the sell to other OEMs.

The cost of a failed OS is a very large tax writeoff.

In addition, how exactly are you going to improve on Droid OS or even iOS? How are you going to differentiate yourself in the market?

Samsung is doing fairly well on its cell phone related businesses. Why get into a business where the competition is rough, the payoff is minimal, and the price of failure is high?

Do you think if AAPL had released the iPod, iPhone, and iPad with Android on them the response by the market would be ONE BIT DIFFERENT? Of course not. AAPL's advantage was not that the OS is good. It was that they were first.
