Those are political talking points - a flat tax only means everyone has the same tax rate - but calculating your taxable income is just as complicated as before. Unless you plan to eliminate every form of tax deduction including capital investments, mortgage interest, medical expenses amortization schedules, charitable gift deductions etc.

I support a flat tax rate - everyone pays 10% on adjusted income and we can squabble about deductions for awhile.
