Mohammed would have approved, heck, he would have demanded her for himself. In some countries women this happens to are punished for their "whorish" behavior though Egypt isn't typically like that. Or hasn't been.


I have to agree with you. In an Arab society women are protected by their families. Women who step outside the social norms - as American reporters plainly do, all the more so if they are attractive blonds - are taking a risk and should be aware of it.

Mob behavior is always dangerous and twice as much so in a "shame" society, such as Egypt, where the mob's promise of anonymity removes all behavioral constraints. In a "shame" society, you only feel bad about committing a crime if you get caught.
